How to Dispute a Charge on Your Chime Card

If you see a charge you don’t recognize or a transaction that went wrong, you can file a dispute directly in the Chime app.

File a dispute in the app:

  1. Open the Chime app and tap the account with the transaction you want to dispute.
  2. Find the transaction in your list (it must be posted, not pending).
  3. Tap Problem with this transaction?
  4. Follow the prompts to file your dispute.

If you can’t file in the app:

Call Chime Member Services at (844) 244-6363 for help filing your dispute.

Important: Pending transactions cannot be disputed. Wait until the transaction is fully settled and posted to your account before filing. If you believe the charge is unauthorized, immediately freeze your card in the app to prevent further charges.

What to include with your dispute:

  • Receipts or invoices
  • Confirmation emails or order details
  • Tracking numbers (if applicable)
  • Any conversations with the merchant
  • Photos of damaged or defective merchandise

After filing, you can check the status in the Disputes section of the Chime app. Chime will email you once a decision is made.

How to Close Your Chime Account

You can close your Chime Checking Account directly in the mobile app or by calling support.

  1. Freeze your card immediately: Go to Profile → Cards, select the card, and toggle Freeze card. (Green = frozen, Gray = active)
  2. Request a replacement: In the same Cards section, tap Replace card, choose a reason, and confirm your address.
  3. Update your password: Change your Chime password to secure your account.
Note: Once you request a replacement card, your old card will be deactivated automatically.

Chime Direct Deposit Not Showing Up?

If your direct deposit hasn’t arrived, here are the most common reasons and what to do:

  • Check your employer’s payroll schedule: Some employers process deposits earlier or later than expected.
  • Verify your account and routing numbers: Make sure your employer has the correct Chime account details.
  • Technical delays: Occasionally, Chime may experience system issues that delay deposits. Check the app for any notices.
  • Contact Chime Support: If the deposit is significantly late, call (844) 244-6363 to check the status.
Tip: Chime typically posts direct deposits up to two days early when your employer submits payroll early. If it’s your first deposit, it may take 1–2 pay cycles to set up.

Why Isn’t My Chime SpotMe Limit Increasing?

SpotMe is Chime’s fee-free overdraft feature. Your limit grows over time based on your account activity. Here’s what affects it:

  • Consistent direct deposits: Regular deposits are the biggest factor in increasing your SpotMe limit.
  • Account activity: Using your Chime account regularly helps.
  • Repayment history: Paying back SpotMe balances on time helps your limit grow.
  • Account age: Newer accounts may have lower limits initially.

If your limit hasn’t changed in a while, keep using your account consistently. Contact Chime Support if you have specific questions about your SpotMe eligibility.
