Cancel, refund, or fix any Avast issue

There are two different things people mean by "cancel" — turning off future charges, and ending the subscription now.

Turn off auto-renewal

1. Sign in at my.avast.com.
2. Click Manage subscriptions on the My subscriptions tile.
3. Under the subscription you want to cancel, click Manage subscription.
4. Click Unsubscribe or Cancel renewal.
5. Review the details, then click Confirm & finish.
6. Optionally, let Avast know why you are cancelling.

Cancel immediately

Call support and ask for full cancellation. If you're inside the refund window, request the refund in the same call.

Avast offers a 30-day money-back guarantee on consumer subscriptions purchased directly from Avast or billed through Avast.

Are you eligible?

• Initial purchase: refund within 30 days of payment.
• Renewal charges: refund within 30 days of the renewal charge.
• Third-party purchases: if you bought from a retailer, contact them directly.
• App Store / Google Play: refunds must be requested through Apple or Google.

How to request it

1. Go to the Avast Support site.
2. Search for "refund" and open the refund request page.
3. Fill in the refund request form with your order details.
4. Or call support and request it directly.

Nine times out of ten, a surprise Avast charge is an auto-renewal you forgot about.

Update your card or billing address

1. Sign in at my.avast.com.
2. Select Account, then My Profile.
3. In the Billing Information section, click Update.
4. Enter the new card details and address, then click Save.

Review past charges

1. Sign in and open My Account → Subscriptions.
2. Click View active for current plans.
3. Click All expired for older subscriptions.

Most login failures are a password issue, an unregistered email, or Caps Lock being on.

Reset your password

1. Go to the Avast sign-in page.
2. Click Forgot password.
3. Enter your registered email and click Continue.
4. Check your inbox for the reset link and create a new password.

Common login errors

• Username or password incorrect: Check that your password is at least 7 characters and Caps Lock is off.
• Email not registered: Try older or work emails. If Avast came pre-installed on a Dell or OEM machine, the registered email may differ.
• Login loop (Error -500): Clear your browser cache and cookies, then try again. If the issue persists, restart your device and network.

Use this when Avast won't open, is using huge amounts of CPU, or won't update.

Standard uninstall (Windows)

1. Press Windows key + R to open the Run box.
2. Type appwiz.cpl and press Enter.
3. Find Avast, right-click it, and choose Uninstall.
4. Follow the prompts, then restart your PC.

If the standard uninstall fails — use Avast Clear

1. Download the Avast Clear tool (avastclear.exe) from the official Avast website.
2. Right-click the file and choose Run as administrator.
3. When the tool opens in Windows Safe Mode, select Remove or Remove & Reinstall.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions, then restart your PC.

Run these in order — most people are fixed by step 3.

1. Restart your computer. A full restart, not shutdown.
2. Run an update inside the Avast app (Menu → Settings → Update).
3. Disable the Avast shields temporarily to check if a conflict is causing the crash.
4. Check for conflicting antivirus software. Only one should be active at a time.
5. Reinstall Avast using the Avast Clear method above.
